Phillips To Play In East-West Shrine Game
Dec. 4, 2008
FORT WORTH, Texas -- TCU senior linebacker Jason Phillips has been selected to play in the 84th East-West Shrine Game on Jan. 17 at Robertson Stadium in Houston.
Phillips is the only defensive player in Mountain West Conference history to be a first- or second-team all-conference selection in four consecutive seasons. He's a first-team pick in 2008.
A native of Waller, Texas, Phillips tops TCU with 79 tackles. It's the third time in four seasons he has led the Horned Frogs in stops. Phillips is second on the team with 12.0 tackles for loss, including 3.5 sacks.
Phillips has started all but one game over the last four seasons. He did not play in this year's Stephen F. Austin contest due to injury.
The East-West Shrine Game features many of the top players in the nation and raises money for Shriners Hospitals for Children, an international health care system of 22 hospitals across North America.
Phillips will play for the West team, coached by Gene Stallings. Bobby Ross will coach the East squad.
