Travin Howard
Dec. 6, 2016

FORT WORTH, Texas -- Five TCU football players, all on the defensive side, were named to the Associated Press All-Big 12 Team.

Linebacker Travin Howard was a first-team selection, while defensive end Josh Carraway, defensive tackle Aaron Curry, safety Denzel Johnson and cornerback Ranthony Texada were second-team picks.

Howard leads the Big 12 and is seventh nationally in tackles at 10.4 per game. His 125 stops make him only the second player (Martin Patterson, 2003-04) in Gary Patterson's 16 seasons as head coach to have back-to-back years with 100 stops.

Carraway, also a first-team Academic All-Big 12 member with a 4.0 grade-point average, has a team-high eight sacks which place fourth in the Big 12. The graduate student from Flower Mound, Texas, ranks seventh in TCU history with 19 career sacks.

Curry is tied with Carraway for the team lead among defensive linemen with 47 stops. He has 5 1/2 sacks among eight tackles for loss.

Johnson's 11 tackles for loss, including 2 1/2 sacks, equal Carraway for tops on TCU. Johnson, a senior from Gainesville, Texas, is tied for third on the Horned Frogs with 84 tackles and six pass breakups.

Texada returned to action in 2016 after missing most of the 2015 campaign due to injury. He is second on TCU with seven pass breakups while adding a 28-yard interception return for a touchdown at Baylor. He has totaled 39 tackles, including 3 1/2 for loss with two sacks.

TCU will face Georgia Dec. 30 in the AutoZone Liberty Bowl. Kickoff is at 11 a.m. on ESPN.
