Mazzoli Ties Career Best to Lead TCU

WAIKOLOA, Hawaii -- Junior Stefano Mazzoli had one of the best rounds of his career to finish tied for sixth at the Amer Ari Invitational Saturday in Waikoloa, Hawaii.
Mazzoli shot 7-under 65 in the final round, which tied a career low, and moved 17 spots up the leaderboard at the Waikoloa Kings' Course. The Italian last shot 7-under 65 in the first round of last year's Amer Ari Invitational. Mazzoli joined Julien Brun, Tom Hoge and Adam Rubinson as the only golfers in TCU history to have multiple rounds of 7-under par in their career.
Mazzoli finished 10-under 206, a career best for strokes under par. He tied for the tournament high with 17 birdies, nine of which came in the final round.
Junior Pierre Mazier shot 2-under 70 Saturday. He finished tied for 20th place at 7-under 209.
Junior Turner MacLean finished tied for 41st after shooting 1-under 215 for the tournament.
As a team, the Frogs had their best round of the tournament shooting 9-under 279. TCU moved up two spots from Friday and finished tied with No. 3 Georgia Tech and No. 8 Auburn for fifth place at 22-under 842. No. 2 Oklahoma State won the tournament, which featured seven teams ranked in the top 25, at 47-under 817.
TCU will next play at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate in Palm Desert, Calif., Feb. 16-18.
