LA QUINTA, Calif.—TCU finished Monday in sole possession of the team lead as play was suspended due to darkness during Round 1 of The Prestige at PGA WEST.

TCU, ranked 13th in latest Golfweek/Sagarin national team rankings, extended its streak of holding the lead after the opening round to three straight tournaments, finishing its first effort at the Greg Norman Course with a 6-under 278. All four Horned Frogs who contributed towards the team score currently sit among the top-12 golfers on the individual leaderboard.

The Frogs currently hold a one-stroke lead over No. 8 USC (-5) and a two-shot edge over No. 6 Washington (-4), which still has three holes yet to play in its opening round. Including the Trojans and Huskies, TCU currently leads five squads ranked among the top-20 teams in the latest Golfweek ratings, as it also is ahead of No. 2 UCLA, No. 14 Stanford and No. 15 Oklahoma State.

Sophomore All-American Julien Brun and senior Pontus Gad currently lead all Frogs on the individual leaderboard in a six-way logjam for sixth place, as both fired 2-under scores of 69 in the opening round. Gad has now finished at par or better in each of his seven rounds this spring. The pair of Frogs is only two strokes back of four golfers tied for the individual lead at -4: Rufie Fessler (Fresno State), Jeffrey Kang (USC), Tyler Raber (UC Davis) and Cameron Wilson (Stanford).

Just behind Brun and Gad by one stroke in a tie for 12th place are senior Eli Cole and freshman Paul Barjon, who both carded 1-under totals of 70 to complete TCU’s opening-round team score. Senior Daniel Jennevret is +1 after shooting 72.

Also competing for the Frogs this week as an individual is freshman Michael Culin, who was +3 midway through his opening round when competition was suspended.

TCU continues competition at The Prestige on Tuesday. Round 2 will commence following the completion of Round 1, which is scheduled to begin at 8 a.m. PST.
