Brun Claims Seventh Title in Palm Desert
Feb. 23, 2014
PALM DESERT, Calif. - Julien Brun defended his title at the Wyoming Cowboy Desert Intercollegiate with a season-low round of 65 while helping lead the TCU men's golf team to its second-straight third-place showing on Sunday at The Classic Club.
Brun's final round 7-under 65 tied for the lowest of the tournament as the Antibes, France, native registered his seventh-career tournament title, marking five more victories than the next closest Horned Frog (J.J. Henry) under head coach Bill Montigel in the past 27 seasons.
The Horned Frogs fired the lowest round of the afternoon with an 11-under 277 to lock in their second-straight top-three finish and climb 11 positions from Friday's opening round.
"I'm proud of how the team played the last two rounds," Montigel said. "They hung in there and played good golf and it shows that all of their hard work is paying off."
Freshman Chelso Barrett continued his impressive start to the spring season, locking in his second-straight top-10 showing with a final round of 71. Barrett, along with Brun, have yet to fire a round over par in the first six rounds of the spring season.
Junior Paul Barjon put another solid round with a 1-under 71 to finish in 31st place, while freshman Giulio Castaganara came up big for the Frogs by matching a season low with a 2-under 70.
The Frogs return to action on March 7 at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas, Nev.
