TCU Wins Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate
Feb. 27, 2018
HILTON HEAD, S.C. – Behind a course record by individual champion Stefano Mazzoli, the TCU men’s golf team won the Wexford Plantation Intercollegiate Tuesday in Hilton Head, S.C.
The Frogs shot 11-under 853 to finish one shot ahead of Georgia (-10) and win their first tournament of the season.
Mazzoli, who began the day tied for ninth, shot 5-under 31 on the back nine, including an eagle on the par-5 No. 11 hole. The third 7-under 65 in Mazzoli’s career set a course record at the Wexford Plantation Golf Course. He finished two strokes ahead of Davis Thompson (-8) of Georgia.
The 65 puts Mazzoli’s name behind three-time All-American Julien Brun in the TCU record books. Only Brun has recorded more rounds of 7-under par in a career than Mazzoli. Brun did so five times over the course of his four-year career, 2012-15.
The win was the second of Mazzoli’s TCU career. He also won the USF Olympic Invitational on Sept. 13, 2016 as a sophomore.
Junior David Ravetto, who started the final round tied for second, shot 2-over 74 Tuesday and finished tied for fifth at 3-under 213. Junior Pierre Mazier moved up eight places after shooting even-par 72. He finished tied for ninth at even-par 216.
TCU will next be in action March 5 at the Southern Highlands Collegiate in Las Vegas, Nev.
1. TCU: 287, 281, 285 = 853 (-11)
