March 9, 2014
LAS VEGAS - The TCU men's golf team rounded out play at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters on Sunday at the Southern Highlands Golf Club with an 11th-place showing among a talented field that featured 14 teams representing the nation's top 41 programs.
The Horned Frogs sat inside the top ten for the majority of the tournament, which began on Friday, and were as high as sixth on Sunday at 6-under through the first nine holes before struggling on a tough back nine that saw TCU combine for 22-over par.
TCU finished just seven strokes back of sixth position and rounded out play above notable programs such as No. 3 Georgia Tech, No. 12 Texas A&M and No. 30 Arizona State.
Junior standout Julien Brun just missed his fifth top-10 finish in six tournaments this season with a final round of 72 to finish 11th at 5-over par, four strokes behind the tournament champion. The Antibes, France, native carded a 1-under 71 in Friday's opening round to sit in third spot after 18 holes before a 6-over 78 on Saturday.
Freshman Chelso Barrett carded a final round 3-over 75 to close play in 34th position. The Keene, N.H., native knocked in birdies on the three of the last six holes on the front nine on Sunday before going 5-over on the challenging back nine.
Sophomore Paul Barjon was also stellar on the front nine on Sunday, going 5-under before finishing play with a 4-over 76, while freshman Giulio Castagnara matched Brun for the best round by a Frog on the back nine on Sunday (+2) en route to a 4-over 76.
The Frogs return to action on Friday in the three-day National Invitational Tournament in Tucson, Ariz.
