TCU Climbs Leaderboard in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS, Nev.—TCU climbed into seventh place with a solid Round 2 performance Saturday at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters. Each of the teams in front of the Horned Frogs is ranked among the nation’s top-17 squads.

The Frogs, ranked 39th nationally in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin national ratings, combined for a 2-over par 292 Saturday to move up three positions and will enter the final round 13 shots off the pace of leader California (-3). TCU finds itself only three strokes out of fourth place and leads six teams that are ranked ahead of them.

Freshman Julien Brun and senior Johan de Beer are TCU’s top golfers on the individual leaderboard in a nine-player group tied for 17th place at +1. Brun played even-par golf Saturday, while de Beer fired a 2-over 74. Junior Daniel Jennevret, who is tied for 32nd, shot a 1-over 73, and fellow Junior Pontus Gad also recorded a 73 to climb into a tie for 41st place. Freshman Thomas Mantovanini sits in a tie for 77th place following two rounds of play.

Texas Tech’s Logan McCracken continues to top the individual leaderboard at -6 after playing even-par golf on Saturday.

Competition at the Southern Highlands Collegiate Masters wraps up Sunday with the final round. First groups are scheduled to tee off at 8 a.m. PST at Southern Highlands Golf Club.
