GOODYEAR, Ariz.--The TCU men's golf team finished the opening round of the Desert Shootout in second place Thursday at Palm Valley Golf Course. Five of the six Horned Frogs in action shot even par or better.

TCU combined for a 12-under par 276, two strokes off the pace set by the first-round leader, Oklahoma (-14). The field's top-six squads each finished the day within three strokes of first place. The Frogs led all teams with 25 birdies Thursday.

Junior Johan de Beer and sophomore Daniel Jennevret both shot respective 4-under par rounds of 68 to finish among a group of nine players who are two shots back in eighth place.
