COLLEGE GROVE, Tenn. – Competing in its 28th consecutive NCAA Regional, the TCU men’s golf team finished round one tied for eighth Monday in College Grove, Tenn.

The Horned Frogs shot 7-over 295 at The Grove, 17 shots back of the leader, Vanderbilt (-9). With the goal of placing in the top five and advancing to the NCAA Championships, TCU trails the fifth-place team, Clemson (E), by seven strokes.

The Frogs fared well early, shooting even-par for the back nine after starting the round on hole No. 10. The front nine played tougher as TCU shot 8-over.

Senior Pierre Mazier (France) led the Frogs at even-par 72 with a team-high 12 pars. He trails co-leaders, Patrick Martin (Vanderbilt) and Bryson Nimmer (Clemson) by six stokes.

Senior Chelso Barrett (Keene, N.H.) and sophomore Triston Fisher (Southlake, Texas) both tied for 24th place at 1-over 73.

Sophomore Stefano Mazzoli (Italy) was 3-under through six holes, but finished 5-over 77 after a tough second nine. He is currently tied for 54th place with sophomore Turner MacLean (Fort Worth). MacLean had one of seven eagles on the course Monday with a three on the par 5 No. 2 hole. He, along with Barrett, ended the round with a birdie on the par 5 No. 9.

TCU Notables
- TCU, the No. 10 seed, was paired with No. 11 seed Troy and No. 12 seed East Tennessee State. The trio began on the 10th hole at 9:15 a.m.
- When the Frogs teed off on Monday, the temperature was roughly 30 degrees warmer than when TCU last competed, April 26 at the Big 12 Championship. On the final day of the event in Hutchinson Kan., TCU teed off at 9 a.m. and it was 42 degrees.
- TCU had the third-best par 3 average of the day at 3.05 (+1).
- Martin (Vanderbilt) and Nimmer (Clemson) both shot 6-under 66, which matched the best collegiate tournament round in the history of The Grove.
