PULLMAN, Wash.--Each golfer in TCU's lineup finished among the top-30 on the individual leaderboard Thursday to lead the Horned Frogs during Round 1 competition of the NCAA Pullman Regional at Palouse Ridge Golf Club.

The Frogs completed the opening 18 holes tied alongside Memphis for sixth place in the team standings following a 12-under par total of 276. Each of the top-five squads on the final leaderboard will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be played May 28-June 2 in Alpharetta, Ga.

Top-ranked Cal raced out to the early lead in the team race after firing a 23-under 265, two strokes better than second-place St. Mary's (-21). San Diego State (-17), USC (-16) and Pacific (-14) fill out the top-5 in the early going, with the Frogs just two shot behind the final NCAA qualifying position. TCU and Cal were the only teams to place each of their golfers among the field's top-30 individuals Thursday.

The opening day of the NCAA Pullman Regional was ripe for scoring, as more than half of the field finished below par. USC's Sam Smith will take a one-shot advantage into Round 2 after firing a 10-under 62 Thursday.

Senior Pontus Gad paced all Frogs on the leaderboard after opening the tournament with a 4-under 68, which matched the top round of his TCU career on a par-72 course. Gad's total was good for a share of 18th place after Day 1 action. He rebounded following a +1 start through the first four holes with five birdies over his final 14 holes.

Freshman Paul Barjon sits in a tie for 25th place, one stroke back of Gad at -3, following an opening-round 69. Barjon's total marked his fifth consecutive sub-70 score dating back to the final round of the National Invitational Tournament in mid-March. He recorded six birdies against three bogeys in his return to the course after missing the Big 12 Championship due to injury.

Joining Barjon at -3 was senior Eli Cole, who notched his eighth sub-70 round of the season. Cole's round got off to a slow start, as he played even-par golf through the front nine before finishing with two birdies and an eagle on the par-4 15th hole.

Senior Daniel Jennevret and sophomore Julien Brun helped TCU place all five of its individuals in the field's top 30 with matching 2-under rounds of 70. Jennevret was 1-over following the front nine but rallied by carding five birdies on the backside, including four in the final five holes. Brun joined Jennevret in birdying the final two holes to gain momentum heading into Friday's second round.

TCU continues play Friday in Pullman. First groups are scheduled to tee off at 8 a.m. PDT.
