May 16, 2014
SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Julien Brun fired a 5-under 67 for the second-straight day to extend his overall lead to four strokes while the TCU men's golf team closed the second round in a tie for fifth place on Friday at the NCAA San Antonio Regional at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.
The Horned Frogs held their fifth-place position with an even-par 288 and enter Saturday's final round tied with No. 18 UCLA and No. 42 Georgia Southern at 2-over, just one stroke back of fourth place and eight strokes back of third. Each of the top-five squads on the final leaderboard will advance to the NCAA Championships, which will be played May 23-28 in Hutchinson, Kan.
Brun continued his incredible run on Friday with his second-straight round of 67 to climb to a four-stroke lead over SMU's Bryson Dechambeau at 10-under. The Antibes, France, native is the lone individual to card two sub-70 rounds in San Antonio and has scored in the 60's in four-straight rounds and six of the last nine.
Brun opened the second round on a tear, stringing together four-straight birdies on holes two through five and five birdies over seven holes for a nine-hole round of 32. The junior standout rolled in back-to-back birdies on No. 13 and No. 14 to move to 6-under before a bogey on the par-3 17th moved him back to 5-under.
Freshman Chelso Barrett bounced back from a tough opening round with an even-par 72, going 2-under on the back nine with three birdies over four holes.
Junior Paul Barjon posted a 75 on Friday, going 3-over on the back nine and enters the final round in a tie for 13th, while junior Sarosh Adi and freshman Giulio Castagnara rounded out the scoring with rounds of 74 and 75, respectively.
TCU tees off in Saturday's final round at 7:50 a.m., and looks to qualify for its fourth NCAA Championship appearance in the last five seasons. For live results, click here.
