SAN ANTONIO, Texas - Julien Brun claimed the individual title while the TCU men's golf team fell just two strokes shy of advancing to the NCAA Championship in Saturday's final round of the NCAA San Antonio Regional at Briggs Ranch Golf Club.

Brun claimed his ninth-career title and third of the 2013-14 season by carding an even-par 72 in Saturday's final round to finish at 10-under for the tournament, one stroke ahead of Georgia's Lee McCoy. Brun has won back-to-back titles after running away with the Big 12 Championship at Whispering Pines in April.

The Antibes, France, native becomes the third Horned Frog in program history to earn a berth into the NCAA Championship as an individual. However, Brun will forgo the NCAA Championship to play as an amateur at the 2014 Crowne Plaza Invitational at Colonial Country Club, where he earned an exemption after a victory at the Spirit Invitational in November.

As a team, the Horned Frogs carded a 3-over 293 on Saturday, missing a berth to the NCAA Championship by just two strokes to finish sixth after entering the regional as a No. 9 seed.

"I'm very proud of how the team played this weekend," head coach Bill Montigel said. "We fell just short, but it was a heck of an effort by these guys."

TCU sat in seventh early on in Saturday's action when freshman Chelso Barrett sank an eagle on the par-5 7th hole to propel the Frogs back inside the cut line.

Sophomore Paul Barjon created separation behind TCU with back-to-back birdies on holes 10 and 11, and Brun added back-to-back birdies three holes later to push the Frogs back out ahead of a surging UCLA squad.

Brun struck again with a birdie on the par-3 17th to put TCU ahead of UCLA by two strokes, but the Frogs ran into trouble on the final hole as the Bruins secured the fifth and final spot.

Barjon would fire an even-par 72 to finish ninth overall for his second top-10 showing of the season, while Barrett earned a 1-over 73.

Freshman Giulio Castagnara and junior Sarosh Adi rounded out scoring for TCU with a 76 and 77, respectively.
