Men's Golf Second at Pebble Beach
Sept. 2, 2016
PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- The TCU men's golf team got three sub-par rounds at one of the world's most famous courses and sits in second place after one round of the Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The season-opening tournament features a loaded field with four top-10 teams, including No. 6 Georgia who leads TCU by two strokes after 18 holes. The Frogs, ranked 35th, shot a 354 and are tied for second place with Texas Tech.
Round of the Day
The career-low round comes as no surprise from MacLean who had a great summer and played in his first U.S. Amateur just three weeks ago.
- SophomoreDaniel Gurtner also posted a sub-par round with a 1-under 71, thanks in large part to an eagle on the par-5 second.
- Sophomore Stefano Mazzoli nearly gave TCU four sub-par rounds, but a double-bogey on the famous 18th hole pushed him to an even-par 72.
- The Carmel Cup allows teams an extra player in their lineup, so all teams are playing with six golfers with the top five scores from each round counting toward the team score.
