MacLean Leads Frogs at Pebble Beach

PEBBLE BEACH, Calif. -- Junior Turner MacLean tied for 15th place to lead the TCU men's golf team to a fifth-place finish at The Carmel Cup Sunday in the season-opener at Pebble Beach Golf Links.
The Fort Worth native finished 6-under 210, which tied a career low for three rounds. MacLean also shot 6-under 210 in last season's Carmel Cup. MacLean was consistent throughout the tournament, finishing 2-under 70 in every round.
Junior Pierre Mazier began the day five shots behind the leader after shooting a career-best shot 5-under 67 on Saturday. On Sunday, the Frenchman shot 4-over 76 and finished tied for 18th at 5-under 211. He finished 10 shots better than his previous best at Pebble Beach, 5-over 221, as a freshman.
Along with MacLean, junior Stefano Mazzoli finished every round under par. The Italian shot 1-under 71 for the third consecutive round and finished 3-under 213 and tied for 23rd. Junior Hayden Springer (Trophy Club) also tied for 23rd after shooting 3-under 213 for the tournament.
Junior Triston Fisher (Southlake, Texas) finished tied for 35th place after shooting 6-over 222. He and Springer both shot 3-over 75 in the third round.
As a team, the Horned Frogs shot 16-under par and were two-places better than last season's seventh-place finish. They defeated No. 25 Georgia, Arkansas (RV) and Ohio State. No. 1 Oklahoma State won the tournament at 52-under par.
