JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. - The TCU Horned Frogs continued their dominance at The Ridges Intercollegiate by defending their team title in the season-opening tournament. The Frogs won the championship by 10 strokes thanks to an individual one-two finish by senior Steve Shuert and junior Adam Rubinson. The Frogs broke the previous tournament record of 844 by three strokes with a 54-hole total of 841, while Shuert's score of 204 also set a new tournament standard.

Shuert, who entered Sunday's play trailing Rubinson by three strokes, overtook his teammate with a final-round 68 to become the first Frog to win an individual title since J.J. Henry won the WAC Championships in 1998. Shuert's four-under effort in the final round helped him to a 12-under 204 for the event. His previous best finish was a tie for ninth at last year's Cleveland Golf/Southwestern Intercollegiate.

Rubinson had his first over-par round of the year with a 73 on Sunday. He finished the 54-hole tourney with a 10-under-par 206 thanks to an incredible 64 in Saturday's first round. It was his second straight second-place showing at The Ridges.

In addition, senior Andy Doeden cracked the top 10 with a four-under 212. He shot an even-par 72 to close the event in a tie for eighth place. Other members of the squad were senior Bret Guetz (T31st, 219) and freshman J.J. Killeen (T67th, 230). Sophomore Stephen Polanski, who competed as an individual, tied for 51st with a 224).

"We had a great tournament," head coach Bill Montigel said. "Not only were we able to defend our title, we had a one-two finish which is something that is almost unprecedented. I'm really happy for Steve. He's a senior who has kept improving his game and has become a leader on this team. It's a well-deserved reward for all of his hard work."
