JONESBOROUGH, Tenn. - The TCU men's golf team, ranked 17th in the preseason Golfworld Coaches' Poll, took second place among 15 teams at the season-opening Bank of Tennessee at the Ridges Intercollegiate in Jonesborough, Tenn., on Sunday. With a seven-under score of 857, the Horned Frogs placed just three strokes behind tourney champion Tennessee (854), four ahead of third-place Clemson (861) and 13 ahead of fourth-place Oklahoma (871).

Junior Colby Beckstrom (North Muskegon, Mich.) earned the top placement for the Horned Frogs, as he tied for seventh place. It was the sixth top-10 finish of his career. Beckstrom had a one-over 73 in the final round to wind up with a two-day 214 (-2).

Fellow junior Drew Pigg also registered a top-10 finish, which was the first of his career. The Plano, Texas, native carded a five-over 77 in the final round to finish with an even-par 216. Pigg's previous best collegiate effort was a tie for 41st in his freshman season.

Senior J.J. Killeen netted a one-under round of 71 to close the tournament. With an impressive final day, Killeen tied for 20th, making it his 14th career top-20 showing. True freshman Franklin Corpening matched Killeen's 54-hole 218 (+2) to grab a top-20 in his first college tournament. Corpening, who was playing as an individual, did not count toward the team total. He played even-par golf (72) on Sunday.

Junior Drew Laning, who was also making his first-ever TCU appearance, had a fine showing as well. Laning tied for 25th after a final-round 72 (E) left him with a three-round 219 (+3). Senior David Schultz scorched the course to the tune of a 67 (-5) on Sunday, a score that matched the best total of the tournament for any of the 81 participants in the three rounds. His card helped him move up 37 spots on the final day into a share of 35th position with a 222 (+6) and led to the Horned Frogs' five-under 283 in the last round.

TCU next competes in the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Dalton, Ga., from Sept. 17-19.
