Men's Golf Opens Play in Albuquerque

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. - The TCU men's golf team opened play at the William H. Tucker Intercollegiate on Friday at the UNM Championship Course, placing seventh after 36 holes while junior Julien Brun will head into the final round tied for the overall lead.
The course played tough on Friday under windy conditions, as only Arizona State (-5) finished below par. New Mexico was the next closest squad at six over par. The Horned Frogs, ranked No. 13 in the Golf World/Nike Golf Coaches Poll, remain in striking distance of third spot at just six strokes back of BYU (+15).
Brun kicked off his junior campaign with a stellar start, firing a 3-under 69 in the opening round before carding a 71 on the final 18 holes to enter Saturday's final round tied for the overall lead at -4. Brun was one of only six competitors under par in Friday's second round.
The Antibes, France, native eagled the final hole of the opening round for his 33rd career round of sub-70 while rolling in a birdie on the 17th hole of the second round to jump into a tie for the overall lead.
Sophomore Paul Barjon provided his own fireworks on Friday, knocking in an eagle on the first hole of the tournament on a par-4 en route to an even-par 72 in the first round. After struggling through the opening 11 holes of the second round, Barjon posted his second eagle of the day and remained even over the final five holes for a +4 to end the first day in a tie for 17th overall.
Junior Michael Culin competed in his fifth-career tournament at TCU, coming in at 9-over par after 36 holes to place in a tie for 40th spot. The Plano, Texas, product rolled in four birdies for a first-round 76 and converted two birdies on the final three holes of the second round.
Fellow junior Sarosh Adi opened the day with a 5-over 77 before wrapping up the day at +14 overall.
Chelso Barrett rounded out the lineup in his first collegiate tournament and finished the 36-hole opening day at +16. After a tough start to the opening round, the Keene, N.H., native was just one over par over the final nine holes while rolling in birdies on the final two holes of the second round.
