WINDERMERE, Fla. - The TCU men's golf team opened competition among the nation's top programs at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational Sunday, carding an 8-over 296 for a share of 12th place heading into the second round.

The Horned Frogs got off to a great start on Sunday, as the top four competitors combined to go 1-under through the first nine holes before hitting some rough spots on the back nine. Despite those troubles, TCU posted its best 18-hole score at Isleworth since the opening round in 2010 and the third-best score over the last 12 rounds since 2009. TCU sits just four strokes out of the top 10 in a field that features seven top-20 programs.

Freshman Chelso Barrett highlighted the first round for the Frogs, carding a career-best 2-under 70 in just his seventh collegiate round to finish play in a tie for 10th overall. Barrett's lone blemish came on the eighth hole of the day while the Keene, N.H., product rolled in two birdies on the back nine.

"For the most part our guys were very consistent today and I couldn't be prouder of Chelso's performance in just his third collegiate tournament," head coach Bill Montigel said. "The course is in incredible condition and our guys loved playing it and are looking forward to getting back out there tomorrow."

Junior Julien Brun also turned in a solid performance with an even-par 72, tying his career-best round in two past tournaments at Isleworth. Brun started the day with a birdie on the par-4 10th and played consistently the entire round with just one bogey on the back nine.

Sophomore Paul Barjon found himself among the leaders through nine holes as he sat at 2-under, but he ran into trouble on the back nine where he ended with a 5-over 77.

It was the opposite for junior Sarosh Adi, who was 4-over on the first nine holes before settling in to go 1-over on the back nine to end the day with a 77.

Giulio Castagnara also competed for the Frogs in the freshman's second collegiate tournament, turning in a 6-over 78.
