TCU Golf Places Tied For Seventh at Prestige

LA QUINTA, Calif. - The TCU men's golf team's Election Day results showed a tie for seventh among 16 teams at the Prestige at PGA West. It was the third consecutive seventh-place showing in the fall season for the Horned Frogs, who are rated 10th nationally according to the GCAA/Precept Coaches Poll.

No. 16 UCLA claimed the title with a three-round score of 904 (+40) at the La Quinta Desert Course. TCU's 61-over-par score (925) was just three behind 23rd-rated Oklahoma's fifth-place sum of 922.

TCU senior David Schultz moved up two spots during the course of the final round to finish in a tie for 13th position. The Fargo, N.D. native posted a three-over 75 in the final round to complete the tourney with a 229 (+13). It was the third consecutive top-20 finish this fall for the All-American.

J.J. Killeen, a fellow senior, dropped from a share of third into a tie for 19th on Tuesday after a season-high round of 81. He has now finished among the top 20 in three of the Horned Frogs' four fall events. Prior to today, Killeen had not posted a round higher than 75.

True freshman James Sacheck, a college tournament rookie, had the Frogs' top round of the day, a one-over 73. The native of Zionsville, Ind. narrowly missed a top-20 finish, as he tied for 22nd (231, +15). Sacheck's final round included one eagle and three birdies.

Junior Drew Pigg's 75 was his best score of the 54-hole tournament and helped him move up into a share of 36th place individually. His final score of 235, which is 19-over-par. True freshman Franklin Corpening (Fort Worth Paschal H.S.) had his third straight round in the 80s. He finished tied for 78th with a 251 (+35).

TCU will compete for the final time of the fall season this weekend when the team travels to the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, Ga. The tournament, which was originally scheduled for September but was postponed due to Hurricane Ivan, will feature 54 holes from Nov. 5-7. The Horned Frogs' lineup will consist of Schultz, Killeen, Colby Beckstrom, Drew Stoltz and Drew Laning. For more information on the event, visit
