FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU men’s golf will travel to Palm Desert, Calif., and start play in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate on Friday.

The Horned Frogs will begin at 9 a.m. CT at The Classic Club. The 54-hole tournament will conclude on Sunday.

TCU will go with the lineup of Turner MacLean, Pierre Mazier, Stefano Mazzoli, David Ravetto and Hayden Springer. Triston Fisher will compete as an individual.

The Course – Par 72 | 7,322 yards
The Classic Club is an Arnold Palmer designed course that opened in 2006.

Of the 22 teams, five are ranked in the top 25 according to Golfweek. Entering the weekend, TCU’s strength of schedule is 12th.

Wyoming is the host school for the tournament. Oregon won the team championship last season.

Past Champions
TCU has an impressive history at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate. The Horned Frogs won the team championship in 2013 and 2015. TCU’s Julien Brun won the individual title in 2013 and 2014. Brun’s winning score of 13-under 203 in 2014 still stands as the tournament record.

 

 

Last Time Out
Mazzoli had one of the best rounds of his career and finished tied for sixth at the Amer Ari Invitational on Feb. 3. Mazzoli shot 7-under 65 in the final round, which tied a career low, and finished 10-under 206, a career best for strokes under par. Mazier finished tied for 20th at 7-under 209. The Horned Frogs finished tied for fifth as a team.

Triston Fisher (Junior – Southlake, Texas) – Shot a career-best 6-under 210 at the Golf Club of Georgia Collegiate… Stroke average: 73.13… Member of the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 First Team.

Turner MacLean (Junior – Fort Worth, Texas) – Shot 2-under 70 all three rounds at The Carmel Cup… Stroke average: 70.60… Member of the 2017 Academic All-Big 12 First Team.

Pierre Mazier (Junior – Saint-Raphael, France) – Had a second-round score of 5-under 67 at The Carmel Cup to follow his first round of 68 and finished tied for 18th overall with a score of 5-under 211… Had season-best 7-under 209 at the Amer Ari Invitational… Has shot sub-70 four times… Score average: 72.00.

Stefano Mazzoli (Junior – Moforfano, Italy) – Finished under par in every tournament this season… Has seven sub-70 rounds this season, which matches all of last season… Shot a career-low 10-under 206 at the Amer Ari Invitational… One of four golfers in TCU history to have multiple rounds of 7-under par in their career… Scoring average: 69.73 (team best).

David Ravetto (Junior – Paris, France) – Competed three times this season… Shot a seaso-best 1-over 217 at the Amer Ari Invitational… Scoring average: 74.44… Transfer from Texas Wesleyan… Won the NAIA National Championship as a freshman in 2016.

Hayden Springer (Junior – Trophy Club, Texas) – Tied for 23rd at The Carmel Cup after shooting 3-under 213, his best as a Horned Frog… Scoring average: 72.75… Transfer from Texas Tech.
