FORT WORTH—The TCU men’s golf team opens a two-tournament road trip Monday when it competes in The Prestige at PGA WEST tournament in La Quinta, Calif.
Following a Sunday practice round, three rounds will be played over three days beginning at 10 a.m. PST Monday. Round 2 action tees off Tuesday at 10 a.m., while Wednesday’s final round begins at 6:51 a.m. The Prestige at PGA WEST will be played at the 7,046-yard, par-71 Greg Norman Course at The Club at PGA WEST.
TCU will feature the same five-man lineup for the third consecutive tournament: sophomore Julien Brun, senior Daniel Jennevret, senior Eli Cole, freshman Paul Barjon and senior Pontus Gad.
The Prestige will feature another challenging field of competitors for the Horned Frogs. In addition to No. 13 TCU, the tournament will include five other top-20 squads in No. 2 UCLA, No. 6 Washington, No. 8 USC, No. 14 Stanford and No. 15 Oklahoma State. Other competing teams include No. 39 Texas Tech, No. 47 Arizona State, No. 58 Oregon, No. 60 San Diego State, No. 63 UC Davis, No. 80 Colorado, No. 96 Fresno State, Pepperdine, University of Stirling (Scotland) and Chico State (individual only).
TCU will be making its first appearance at The Prestige since 2010-11, when it placed 11th during the fall season. Jennevret was the Frogs’ top individual finisher in a tie for 26th place. TCU won the tournament in 2009-10 with Jennevret taking top individual honors as a freshman.
The Frogs look to continue a strong start to the spring campaign that has seen them rise in the national rankings from their original position of No. 40. The squad finished runner-up to open the season at the Arizona Intercollegiate before recording a third-place result two weeks ago at the Amer Ari Invitational in Kona, Hawaii.
Brun enters the week as TCU’s top-rated individual at No. 8 in the Golfweek/Sagarin national rankings. Gad, who sat out the fall season in order to work on honing his game, has posted a strong start of his own, climbing into the No. 64 national position while playing each of his six spring rounds at par or better. TCU also boasts two other golfers rated among the national top-102 in Jennevret (No. 97) and Cole (No. 102).
Following their three days at PGA WEST, the Frogs take one day off before returning to competition in Palm Desert, Calif., with the Desert Intercollegiate Friday through Sunday at The Classic Club.
