TCU Wraps up West Coast Trip in Desert
Feb. 21, 2013
The TCU men's golf team concludes its weeklong stay on the west coast this weekend when it competes in the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate at The Classic Club in Palm Desert, Calif. The tournament is scheduled to run Friday through Sunday.
Following a practice round on Thursday, three 18-hole rounds will be played over the three-day weekend with tee times off holes No. 1 and 10 beginning at 7:30 a.m. PST. The event will be held at The Classc Club, which will measure 7,305 yards with a par score of 72. The course is the former annual host of a PGA TOUR event, the Bob Hope Chrysler Classic.
The Horned Frogs will feature its usual five-man lineup, the same as in each of its previous three spring tournaments: sophomore Julien Brun, senior Daniel Jennevret, senior Eli Cole, freshman Paul Barjon and senior Pontus Gad. Freshman Michael Culin will again join the field as an individual entry.
TCU, No. 13 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin national rankings, will enter the tournament as the top-rated squad in the 17-team field. Joining the Frogs will be No. 23 St. Mary's, No. 39 Texas, Tech, No. 50 Wichita State and No. 52 Oregon State, as well as Arkansas-Little Rock, Cal Poly, George Mason, Idaho Iowa State, Kansas, Louisiana-Monroe, Nebraska, San Francisco, Santa Clara, Southern Utah and Wyoming.
The Frogs look to continue their strong start to the spring that has seen the squad earn top-3 finishes in two of their three events to date. The group rallied from a poor second-round showing earlier this week at The Prestige at PGA WEST tournament in La Quinta, Calif., to finish in the middle of the pack in the team standings. Sophomore Julien Brun was the squad's top individual finisher for the second time this spring, tying for seventh place on the final leaderboard.
Following its weekend on the course, TCU returns to Fort Worth for a two-week break from competition. The squad returns to the west coast March 9 for a dual match against Pepperdine in Los Angeles followed by the two-day San Diego Classic March 11-12 at San Diego Country Club.
