FORT WORTH—Three TCU student-athletes were included on the 2013 Academic All-Big 12 Men’s Golf Team released Tuesday by the league office. Senior Eli Cole and sophomore Julien Brun were first-team selections, while senior Pontus Gad was listed on the second team.

Cole and Gad, who will conclude their TCU careers later this spring, added to their respective lists of academic accolades. Gad was honored as an academic all-conference pick for the third time following previous awards from the Mountain West in 2010 and 2011. Cole’s selection matched his 2011 MW honor. Both Horned Frogs have been honored by the Golf Coaches Association of America in the past as Cleveland All-America Scholars. Brun was recognized by the Big 12 in his first year of eligibility for the award.

To qualify for first-team status, student-athletes must maintain at least a 3.20 grade-point average and have participated in at least 60 percent of his team's scheduled events, while those with at least a 3.00 mark are eligible for second-team honors. A total of 20 student-athletes compromised the Academic All-Big 12 men’s golf selections.

Head coach Bill Montigel’s TCU program owns a history of featuring strong student-athletes. Last season’s squad was one of only 68 NCAA Division I teams named to the Golf Coaches Association of America All-Academic Team for producing a cumulative group GPA of at least 3.0. Six of the eight golfers on this year’s roster currently boast at last a 3.0 GPA with the two others possessing at least a 2.86.
