TCU Tied for Third at Big 12 Championship

TRINITY, Texas -- A strong finish by TCU has the Horned Frogs in a tie for third after Friday's opening 36 holes of the Big 12 Men's Golf Championship at the Whispering Pines Golf Club.
Julien Brun's second round 1-under-par 71, which included four birdies over his final 10 holes, has him tied for sixth individually with a 145. He is five strokes off the pace set by Texas Tech's Esteban Restrepo, who's at 4-under 140.
A junior from Antibes, France, Brun also recorded five birdies in a 12-hole stretch of the opening round. He is TCU's career leader with seven tournament wins.
TCU's second-round 293 was a six-stroke improvement from its 299 over the opening 18 holes. Four out of five Horned Frogs lowered their score in second-round action. TCU is tied with Iowa State for third at 592.
With a 4-under 572, No. 14 Texas sits atop the leaderboard with a 5-stroke advantage over No. 42 Texas Tech.
"I was real proud of the way we closed today," TCU head coach Bill Montigel said. "We have an outstanding group of young men who represent TCU well, and they showed a lot in how they played down the stretch.
"We'll look to continue our momentum tomorrow. It will be important to get off to a good start. It's a beautiful course at Whispering Pines and the Big 12 does a tremendous job in putting on this tournament."
Chelso Barrett is tied for 13th individually with a 3-over 147. The freshman from Keene, N.H., shot par on 27 of 36 holes while totaling three birdies.
In posting a first-round 73, Paul Barjon totaled six birdies in a 13-hole span. He added a pair of birdies in the second round to give him eight on the day.
Giulio Castagnara shot par on 14 holes and had two birdies in posting a second-round 75.
Sarosh Adi birdied three consecutive holes on the back nine en route to a second-round 74, a 7-stroke improvement from his opening 18 holes.
