Frogs Ready for NCAA Regional Monday

FORT WORTH, Texas – TCU men’s golf will make its 28th consecutive NCAA Regional appearance on Monday when it tees off at The Grove in College Grove, Tenn.

The 54-hole event will run Monday through Wednesday. The Frogs will tee off at 9:15 a.m. on the 10th hole with Troy and East Tennessee State. TCU will go with the following lineup in order of tee times; Turner MacLean, Stefano Mazzoli, Triston Fisher, Pierre Mazier and Chelso Barrett.

The Course
Designed by Greg Norman, The Grove golf course opened in 2012. This week, the course will play as a Par 72 and measure 7383 yards in length.

The Field
Vanderbilt is the No. 1 seed with Big 12 foe, Texas Tech as the No. 2 seed. The rest of the field includes Clemson (3rd seed), Georgia (4), Missouri (5), Lipscomb (6), Kennesaw State (7), UCF (8), Middle Tennessee State (9), Troy (11), East Tennessee State (12), Harvard (13).

TCU at the NCAA Regional
Last season, the Frogs finished second at the NCAA Regional in Albuquerque, N.M. to advance to the NCAA Championships for the second-straight season. TCU has advanced to the NCAA Championship 19 times including six times in the last eight seasons.

Last Time Out
TCU finished eighth at the Big 12 Championship at Prairie Dunes Country Club in Hutchinson, Kan. The Frogs were led by senior Chelso Barrett, who finished 15th, 10 shots back of the conference champion. Sophomore Pierre Mazier was 25th, sophomore Triston Fisher was 39th, sophomore Stefano Mazzoli was 40th and sophomore Turner MacLean finished 47th.

 

 

TCU Lineup
Chelso Barrett (Senior – Keen, N.H.) – TCU’s top finisher in four tournaments this season; Advanced to the NCAA Championships in each of the last two years; Finished 13th at 2016 NCAA Championships; TCU’s top finisher at the Bob Sitton Invitational, placing third overall at (+1); finished in the top 15 in the first three tournaments in the fall; Led TCU in two tournaments this season; 2016 PING All-America Honorable Mention;

Triston Fisher (Sophomore – Southlake, Texas) – Shot a career-best even-par 216 Mission Inn Spring Spectacular and finished second overall; Played in each of the last seven tournaments for TCU; Played in five tournaments as a freshman

Stefano Mazzoli (Sophomore – Moforfano, Italy) – Had seven birdies to shoot a 66 in the final round of the Bob Sitton Invitational; Shot a career-best 8-under 208 and finished third at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate; Had two sub-70 rounds at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate for the first time in his career; Finished tied for 33rd place and had a career-low opening round score of 65 at the Amer Ari Invitational; Finished 28th at Nike Collegiate Invitational; won USF Olympic Invitational at The Olympic Club for first career win; was the only current college player in the 2016 Open Championship field

Turner MacLean (Sophomore – Fort Worth) – Competed in the last seven tournaments for TCU; Shot an even-par 216 at the Wyoming Desert Intercollegiate; Opened the fall season with a career-best 6-under 210 to finish in a tie for 11th place at the Carmel Cup at Pebble Beach; Played in seven tournaments as a freshman

Pierre Mazier (Sophomore – Saint-Raphael, France) – Was a member of last season’s NCAA Championship qualifying team; Ranked 108 in the nation by GolfStat, TCU’s highest ranked player; Five top 20 finishes this season; TCU’s top finisher at the Ameri Ari Tournament, Southern Highlands Collegiate and Redhawk Invitational; Matched a career low with a 68 in the final round of the Seattle U Redhawk Invitational to finish with a career
