Sacheck set to debut at NCAA Division I Men's Golf National Championships
May 27, 2008
James Sacheck (Zionsville, Ind./Zionsville H.S.) will make his debut at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf National Championships on Wednesday (May 28) when the TCU junior begins action at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex in West Lafayette, Ind. A native of Zionsville, Ind., - which is located 45 minutes from the campus of Purdue University - becomes only the second individual in TCU men's golf history to ever qualify for the national championships as he joins Chad Magee - who reached nationals during the 1990 campaign. Sacheck earned his spot at the NCAA Division I Men's Golf National Championships by capturing the final individual slot in a two-hole playoff against Charles Ford of Tennessee at the NCAA Division I South Central Regional Championships 10 days ago. The TCU junior tied for ninth overall with a three-round score of 220 (74-76-70) - including a season-best and tournament-best score of 70 in the final round of action. With Colorado's Derek Tolan clinching the first of two individual spots with a seventh-place finish - Sacheck and Ford were tied for ninth overall with neither team earning a spot at the national championships. After tying on the first hole of the playoffs - Sacheck captured the final spot at the national championships on the second hole of competition. After competing in one tournament during his sophomore season - Sacheck has enjoyed a standout junior campaign where he has competed in a career-high 12 tournaments en route to notching a team-best 73.66 strokes average - including five top-10 finishes this season. The TCU junior recorded a fifth-place showing at the Mountain West Conference Championships; seventh at the National Invitational Tournament; eighth at The Prestige at PGA West and a pair of ninth-place finishes at the NCAA Central Regional Championships and MacDonald Cup.
In addition to having a standout 2007-08 campaign - Sacheck will always have an advantage heading into the NCAA Division I Men's Golf National Championships as he will return to the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex for the first time since capturing the Midwest Junior Classic in 2002.
Sacheck won the Midwest Junior Classic by one stroke during the 2002 campaign at the Birck Boilermaker Golf Complex as part of the All-Futures Collegians World Tour. The first round of action will begin on Wednesday (May 28) at the Birck Boilermaker Complex in West Lafayette, Ind. TCU Athletic Media Relations
