FORT WORTH — Paul Barjon led a four-man TCU contingent at this week’s British Amateur Championship by advancing to the match-play quarterfinals at Royal Cinque Ports & Prince’s Golf Clubs in Kent, England.

In addition to Barjon, two additional Horned Frogs, Julien Brun and Pontus Gad, also reached the match-play portion of the event.

Barjon concluded an outstanding individual week Friday, falling to Finland’s Toni Hakula in the quarterfinals, 4&3. The Frogs’ rising sophomore had won three straight matches, all against British golfers, to reach the quarters after tying for fifth place overall in the stroke-play portion of the tournament (-1). He fell just two shots shy of claiming stroke-play top-medalist honors for TCU for the second straight year following Daniel Jennevret’s victory last summer.

Barjon, a product of French territory New Caledonia, opened match play with a 3&1 victory over Oliver Carr in the Round of 64 before surviving a playoff hole against another Englishman, Edward Richardson, in the Round of 32. The then posted a 2-up win over Ashley Chesters in the Round of 16 to reach the quarters.

Joining Barjon in advancing past the opening round of match play was Gad, who reached the Round of 32 with a 1-up victory over England’s Scott Gibson. Gad bowed out of the competition following a 5&4 setback to Slovenia’s Tim Gornik on Thursday. He qualified for match play by tying for 30th place in stroke play (+3).

Brun was one of 16 individuals who earned spots in the play-in round of match play after sharing 53rd place on the final stroke-play leaderboard (+4). He was defeated in the play-in round by England’s Nick Marsh, 4&2.

Also competing this week for TCU was Daniel Jennevret, who tied for 105th place in the stroke-play competition.
