TCU golf to open fall season
Sept. 10, 2007
FORT WORTH--The TCU men's golf team makes an early start to the 2007-08 season by opening the fall schedule Monday, Sept. 10 through Tuesday, Sept. 11 at the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio.
Head coach Bill Montigel's squad will feature five Frogs in action at Toledo's Inverness Country Club: junior Robby Ormand, sophomore Travis Woolf, senior Franklin Corpening, junior James Sacheck and junior Ryan Ammon. The group returns three returnees from the Frogs' 2007 roster that placed 25th at the NCAA Central Regional--Corpening, Sacheck and Woolf. Corpening led the threesome in scoring average last year at 74.03, while Woolf followed close behind at 74.05.
The tournament consists of 54 holes (36 on Monday, 18 on Tuesday) with team and individual titles awarded and will be played on a par-71, 7,255-yard course. Founded in 1903, the Inverness has hosted numerous championship tournaments including four U.S. Opens, one U.S. Amateur, the 1986 and 1993 PGA Championships and the 2003 U.S. Senior Open. It will host the NCAA Men's Golf Championships in 2009.
TCU also opened the 2006-07 fall campaign at the Inverness, as former Frog John McLean paced the squad to a runner-up team finish by earning the individual title. Ormand, who tied for 37th last year, earned the highest finish among the individuals TCU will feature this week.
Other teams among the Inverness field include: Florida, Florida State, Indiana, Kent, Kentucky, Louisville, Michigan, Michigan State, Missouri, North Carolina-Greensboro, Oklahoma State, USC, Texas A&M, Toledo and UNLV.
