Sept. 13, 2007
FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's golf team will compete in their second event of the fall season starting Friday at the Carpet Capital Collegiate in Rocky Face, Ga.
Head coach Bill Montigel's squad for this weekend will consist of Franklin Corpening, Ben Murray, Robby Ormand, James Sacheck and Travis Woolf. Corpening, Sacheck and Woolf are the three returnees from last year's team that made TCU's 18th consecutive NCAA postseason appearance.
This weekend's tournament will be held at The Farm Golf Club, which is a par-72, 7,012-yard course. The course opened in 1988 and has hosted the Carpet Captial Collegiate every year since 1989. Last year, TCU placed 12th as former Frog Drew Stoltz led the team with a tie for 27th. Corpening is the only current player in the field that played the tournament last year, tying for 30th with an even par.
The Frogs opened the season on Monday at the Inverness Intercollegiate in Toledo, Ohio, finishing ninth. Corpening, the lone senior on the roster, led TCU, finishing tied for fourteenth, followed by Woolf who tied for eighteenth.
Other teams competing in the Carpet Capital Collegiate include: Alabama, Auburn, Augusta State, Clemson, Duke, East Tennessee State, Florida, Georgia, Georgia State, Georgia Tech, North Carolina State, South Carolina, Tennessee, Tennessee-Chattanooga, Texas Tech and Wake Forest.
