FORT WORTH—The TCU men’s golf team wraps up fall competition early next week at the Isleworth Collegiate Invitational at Isleworth Golf & Country Club in Windmere, Fla. The Horned Frogs will play three rounds of 18 holes Sunday through Tuesday.
Each of the tournament’s rounds is scheduled to commence at 8 a.m. Isleworth, a par-72 course, was conceived by Arnold Palmer and measures 7,544 yards from the back tees. The course is consistently ranked as the longest and toughest course in the state of Florida by the Florida State Golf Association (FSGA).
For the second consecutive tournament, TCU will face a very tough field featuring some of the nation’s top teams. Eleven of the field’s 15 squads were ranked among the nation’s top 38 in the latest Golfweek/Sagarin national ratings: No. 1 Texas, No. 2 Stanford, No. 5 Alabama, No. 7 California, No. 12 North Florida, No. 13 Oklahoma State, No. 15 UCF, No. 18 LSU, No. 31 TCU, No. 33 Indiana and No. 38 Florida. Augusta State, the two-time defending NCAA team champion, also will compete, as will Ohio State, Texas Tech and Vanderbilt.
TCU will feature the lineup of freshman Julien Brun, junior Daniel Jennevret, seniorJohan de Beer, junior Pontus Gad and freshman Thomas Mantovanini. Brun, Jennevret and de Beer have played in each of TCU’s three previous fall events, while Gad returns to the lineup following a one-tournament absence. TCU head coach Bill Montigel selected Mantovanini to make his first varsity appearance in the Frogs’ No. 5 slot after he survived a team-wide qualifier competition held last week.
Brun and Jennevret hope to finish off a fall season in which both golfers flourished. The two Frogs each appear among the nation’s top-33 golfers in the latestGofweek/Sagarin national individual rankings, with Brun at No. 12 and Jennevret at No. 33. Brun has posted top-5 finishes in each of TCU’s three events, including a victory in his first tournament at the Turning Stone Tiger Intercollegiate held in Verona, N.Y., back in early September. Jennevret opened the fall with back-to-back runner-up finishes before tying for 25th place at the Jack Nicklaus Invitational two weeks ago.
Following Isleworth, TCU will take the next three months off from competition before starting the spring season Feb. 1-3 at the Amer Ari Invitational in Kona, Hawaii.
