TCU Has Productive Day One in Lubbock

LUBBOCK, Texas – TCU track and field began competition at the Texas Tech Shootout on Friday evening. The opening slate of events featured a pair of event wins and several season-best marks.

For the second week in a row, Emeilo Ferguson picked up the win in the 60m, finishing with a season best 6.60 (6.593). In a photo finish, Jalen Miller finished second with a 6.60 mark (6.596).

Derrick Mokaleng also picked up a win on Friday, finishing with a personal-best 45.76 mark in the 400m.

In the men’s triple jump, Scotty Newton set a new season-best with a 16.25m jump and finished second overall. Making his collegiate debut, freshman Chengetayi Mapaya finished third with a 16.04m jump.

In the men’s weight throw, Isaiah Rogers, Justin Sanchez, and Ryan Camp finished second, third, and fourth respectively. Sanchez threw for 19.05m, a new personal-best.

Yasmin Brooks and Brittney Trought both set season-bests in the women’s 60m hurdles, with Brooks finishing in 8.41 in the finals and Trought in 8.41 in the prelims.

The Horned Frogs resume action tomorrow, starting with the women’s pole vault at noon.
