TCU Muscle Milk Athletes of the Week

Feb. 17, 2017

FORT WORTH -- Emmy Martin of women's golf and Scotty Newton of men's track and field have been named TCU's Muscle Milk Athletes of the Week based on their recent impressive performances.

Martin, a native of Odessa, Fla., was the top Horned Frog individually, tying for ninth with a 2-over 218, at the Lady Puerto Rico Classic. It was the third straight top-10 result for the junior. Martin was only 3 strokes off the lead as five players tied for individual medalist honors at 215.

Overall, the women's squad finished fourth and will return to the course on Feb. 27 at The Dickson in The Woodlands, Texas.

Newton, a native of Bakersfield, Calif., moved to No. 7 in the country and No. 2 on TCU’s all-time list with a winning triple jump mark of 53 feet 4.25 inches (16.26 meters) at the Indoor Track and Field Classic in Frisco. It marked the second-straight week the junior eclipsed his personal best in the event. His latest mark was a big jump, beating out his previous best by over a foot.

Newton and the Frogs are scheduled to compete next at the Big 12 Championships in Ames, Iowa on Friday and Saturday, Feb. 24-25.
