Mokaleng Advances to 400m Final

COLLEGE STATION, Texas – The No. 11 ranked TCU track and field team began competition at the 2018 NCAA Indoor Track & Field Championship on Friday, where Derrick Mokaleng advanced to Saturday’s 400m final.

Mokaleng ran 45.95 in the 400m prelims, seventh fastest among the four heats. All four participants of Mokaleng’s heat advanced to the finals. 45.95 is the sophomore’s second fastest mark of the season and his first-sub 46 second mark at the Gilliam Indoor Track Stadium.

Jalen Miller and Emeilo Ferguson finished ninth and eleventh respectively in the men’s 60m prelims, earning them both second-team All-American status.

In the men’s long jump, Scotty Newton jumped 7.47m (24’ 6.5”) and finished twelfth, also securing second-team All-American.

The Horned Frogs return to action tomorrow at the NCAA Indoor Championship. Mokaleng will start things for TCU in the 400m finals scheduled for 4:50 p.m. Newton and Chengetayi Mapaya follow in the triple jump at 5 p.m., and the 4X400 relay will wrap the day up at 6:40 p.m.
