TCU Places Fifth In Hammer Throws On Day One

LAWRENCE, Kan. – TCU opened the 2017 Big 12 Outdoor Track & Field Championship with a pair of fifth-place finishes in the men’s and women’s hammer throw at Rock Chalk Park in Lawrence, Kan., Friday afternoon.

Junior Paola Miranda got TCU on the board with a quick four points as she opened the meet with a fifth-place mark of 186 feet 1 inch (56.71 meters) in the hammer throw.

On the men’s side, sophomore Fellan McGuigan led the way with a fifth-place finish of his own at 206 feet 7 inches (62.98 meters). Freshman Ryan Camp also scored for the Horned Frogs, earning eighth behind a throw of 194 feet 2 inches (59.18 meters), nearly matching his season best. The duo earned a total of five points for the men’s team.

Senior Makaila Flannigan kept busy with the heptathlon on the first day of competition. The Chandler, Ariz., native started the multi-event in the 100-meter hurdles, where she took advantage of a tailwind and recorded a season-best and third-place time of 13.78 (w+3.2). Flannigan went on to finish second in the shot put at 36 feet 9.75 inches (11.22 meters) and will head into Saturday in eighth place overall with 3,052 points.

The heptathlon will resume at 11 a.m. Saturday with the long jump. Running events start at 4:20 p.m. Live results will continue to be available via Delta Timing.
