June 8, 2018

EUGENE, Ore – The TCU track and field team wrapped up the season on Friday at the NCAA Outdoor Track and Field Championship, with Scotty Newton and Chengetayi Mapaya competing in the triple jump. Both Horned Frogs finished in the top five and earned First-Team All-America Honors.

Newton came out aggressive and jumped 16.47m (54’.5”) on his second attempt and secured a spot in the finals. That proved to be his best jump of the day and finished fourth overall. The senior from Bakersfield capped off his career with a stellar senior season in which he earned two First-Team All-American honors, two Big 12 titles, and two school records. Newton finishes his TCU career with six All-American honors.

Mapaya set a personal-best during the meet. On his fifth attempt, the freshman from Zimbabwe reached 16.42m (53' 10.5") and finished fifth. His previous outdoor personal-best came at the National Relay Championships in April when he jumped 16.25m (53'3.75"). Mapaya's career at TCU is off to an impressive start, earning two First-Team All-America honors in his first season, two top five national finishes, and two Big 12 bronze medals.
