Trio Remains Undefeated at Classic
Jan. 18, 2014
FORT WORTH, Texas – Facundo Lugones, along with the doubles duo of Arnau Dachs and Jhonathan Gonzalez are into the finals of the NCTC Collegiate Classic after winning two matches a piece on Saturday in Indian Wells, Calif.
Dachs and Gonzalez were victorious in both of their doubles matches today and will face Diego Rocha and Aidan Talcot of Denver in the finals at 10:30 a.m., CST on Sunday. The duo were first victorious on Saturday over Simon Norenius and Parker McGuiness of NC State, 6-2, before taking down Alex Giannini and Tom Hill of Pepperdine, 6-4, in the semifinals.
Lugones had to battle back from losing the first set in both matches today to win the second in a tiebreaker and ultimately the match in the third set. The Argentina native is now 6-0 to start 2014 and has had to battle a tiebreaker in all of his wins thus far this season. The junior will face Uros Petronijevic in the finals tomorrow at Noon at the Sunrise Country Club.
“Facundo is the definition of resilience,” coach David Roditi said. “I couldn’t be more impressed and proud of him and the way he’s fighting through everything to win matches. We did a better job today of competing and believing in our game. I’m looking forward to both finals tomorrow.”
After tomorrow’s final, TCU will head to the ITA National Kick-Off in Gainesville, Fla., on Jan. 25-26, where the Horned Frogs will face Florida State in the first round, with the winner moving on to face either Florida or UNC Wilmington.
