FORT WORTH, Texas - The TCU men's tennis team completed play at the Rice Invitational Indoor at the Met Athletic Club in Houston.

Freshman Rafael Abreu took home the title in the men's open singles "B" category with a win over Rice's Cody Jackson in two straight sets 6-4; 6-4. This is the first collegiate tennis experience for Rafael.

Head coach Joey Rive said of Abreu's win, "I was really impresssed with Rafael's play after a week of very tough practices, getting to know the team, and just getting acquainted with being here. He toughed out some singles matches and played well in other areas as well."

Rive also said, "We play in this tournament to get some matches in to prepare for the rest of the season and I am really pleased with how we played."

In response to Fabrizio Sestini's first round win over No. 23 Benjamin Becker of No. 3 ranked Baylor, "This was a great win for Fabrizio, he needed to get back on the board and what a way to do it with a big win over a great player."

Sophomore Daniel Scholten won the "B" division of the men's open singles last year at the Rice Invitational.

TCU open home play against Texas A&M Corpus Christi and Saint Louis Friday January 24 at 9:30 a.m. at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.
