SOUTHFIELD, Mich. – TCU’s men’s tennis team started the season on a high note Saturday morning, dropping Detroit, 5-1, at the Franklin Athletic Complex.
The Horned Frogs won their season opener for the third time in head coach David Roditi’s three seasons as head coach. Detroit slipped to 0-3 on the year. TCU, which plays later this evening at Michigan, and Detroit did not complete the doubles portion of the match.
Five Frogs were winners in singles with four of those coming in straight-set fashion. Sophomore Arnau Dachs built off his solid fall with a 6-3, 6-3 triumph over Detroit’s Alex Latosinsky at No. 1 singles. At No. 2, sophomore Facundo Lugones was a 6-1, 6-4 winner over Pablo Nunez.
Making his spring debut along with Dachs, Rodolfo Bustamante chipped in a 6-3, 6-4 win at the expense of Mike Basha at the third singles spot, while Max Stevens added a 6-3, 6-4 downing of Jay Joshi at No. 5 singles.
Senior Orlando Superlano returned to dual competition after suffering a season-ending knee injury in last year’s season opener to pick up a 3-6, 7-6 (4), 1-0 (9) win at the fourth singles position.
TCU continues play Saturday evening when it travels to No. 20 Michigan. First serve is set for 5 p.m., CST.
