TCU Wins Both Titles at Classic
Jan. 19, 2014
FORT WORTH, Texas - The No. 39 TCU men's tennis team won both the singles and doubles title at the NCTC Collegiate Classic in Indian Wells, Calif., on Sunday.
Facundo Lugones continued his undefeated start to the 2014 spring season by taking down Uros Petronijevic of San Diego 6-4, 6-2 to win the singles title, while Arnau Dachs and Jhonathan Gonzalez defeated Diego Rocha and Aidan Talcot of Denver, 6-4, to win the doubles title.
"Facundo is very deserving of the title. He fought his way to the finals and today he played his best match so far this semester," coach David Roditi said. "He had a great, positive energy and his best mindset today. I am happy for him because it is not easy to win titles.
"Arnau and Jhonathan found a way to hang on and win. Neither team played well and our guys stayed positive enough to pull out the win and the title. It is a great for our program to take both titles back to Fort Worth."
TCU will now head to the ITA National Kick-Off in Gainesville, Fla., on Jan. 25-26, where the Horned Frogs will face Florida State in the first round, with the winner moving on to face either Florida or UNC Wilmington.
