FORT WORTH, Texas – Tied 3-3 in the match, newcomer Jerry Lopez earned his first dual victory as a Horned Frog and sealed the 4-3 win for the TCU men’s tennis team over Oklahoma State in the Championship Match of the ITA Kick-Off Weekend on Sunday afternoon at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The Frogs (2-0) earned their second straight berth to the ITA National Team Indoor Championship in Charlottesville, Va., from Feb. 12-15, with the victory over the Cowboys (4-1).

TCU fell behind early in the match, as Oklahoma State was able to steal the doubles point with wins at the No. 2 and No. 3 positions. The Frogs rebounded with No. 4 Cameron Norrie taking a quick 6-1, 6-2 win over Temur Ismailov on court one. The Cowboys rebounded with a win on court six, but freshman Alex Rybakov picked up his first victory over a ranked foe by defeating No. 112 Arjun Kadhe, 7-5, 6-1, to even it up at 2-2.

Eduardo Nava scored his second straight singles victory with a 7-6(6), 6-4 win on court five to inch TCU closer to the win, but Oklahoma State fought back to even the match against by taking the win on court three. All eyes turned to court four and Lopez was leading 5-3 in the final set, when Lucas Gerch was overruled on a line call for the third time in the match to give Lopez the game and the match.

Quotes of the Match
Head Coach David Roditi
“What a college match. It was everything we expected and then some. Oklahoma State is a strong, deep and well-coached team. It is not very often that you are taught a big lesson and also win. Today was one of those days. I'm proud of our singles wins. There were great wins today by Cameron (Norrie) and Alex (Rybakov) so quickly and then Eduardo (Nava) provided a huge point for us. We must improve our doubles and our mentality in practice. We are looking forward to taking such a young team to the national indoors.”
