FORT WORTH – TCU’s men’s tennis team rolled to a 7-0 win over UT Arlington on Friday evening in front of a packed crowd at the indoor facility of the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

With the win, the Horned Frogs improved to 2-1 on the year, while UTA fell to 0-1. It was the 20th win in 21 tries for TCU against its nearby rival. The crowd was one of the largest for a TCU home opener in program history.

“I thought we did an excellent job of keeping our cool in the doubles when things got a little bit tight,” TCU coach David Roditi said. “We continued to control our thoughts in the big moments. That’s going to help us down the road this season. Now it’s about taking this momentum into tomorrow’s match and showing up with the same energy when we’re playing outdoors.”

The Frogs got things going with a 1-0 by taking all three of the doubles matches. After TCU jumped out to an early lead on the courts, UTA kept things interesting but it was Nick Chappell and Will Stein who struck first for TCU, scoring an 8-6 win over Sebastian Gomez and Soren Goritzka at No. 1 doubles.

Arnau Dachs and Orlando Superlano clinched the point for TCU with an 8-4 win over Marek Pesicka and Stefan Williams at No. 2 doubles. Max Stevens and JT Sundling provided the exclamation point with an 8-7 (3) win over Carlos Arbiza and Yauheni Yakuleu.

TCU wasted no time extending its lead in singles as No. 100-ranked Dachs raced to a 6-2, 6-0 win over Arbiza at No. 2 singles. It was Facundo Lugones who made it 3-0 in favor of the home team with a 6-3, 6-4 downing of Goritzka at the No. 3 slot.

Chappell clinched the match for TCU when he took care of Yakauleu, 6-4, 6-4, at the top singles court. Sundling extended the Frog onslaught to 5-0 with his 6-2, 7-6 (6) triumph over Sebastian Erimicioiu.

Superlano added a 6-2, 6-2 win over Williams at No. 5 singles for TCU’s sixth, while Rodolfo Bustamante clinched the shutout with an 8-7 (3) win over Pesicka at No. 6 singles, where a pro set was played in place of a three-set match.

TCU returns to action Saturday afternoon when UTSA visits the Friedman Tennis Center. First serve is set for 1 p.m. on the Bartzen Varsity Courts.
