FORT WORTH, Texas -- The 17th-ranked TCU men's tennis team came back from a 2-0 deficit Friday and posted a 4-3 victory over No. 70 Texas A&M-Corpus Christi in the season opener for both squads. The Horned Frogs lost the doubles point and No. 2 singles to dig themselves in a hole but picked up wins at one, three, four and six singles for the victory. The match was played indoors in Fort Worth, Texas, at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center due to cold weather.

TCU's eighth-rated duo of Rafael Abreu and Fabrizio Sestini got the Horned Frogs' only win in doubles at the top position. They defeated Jeremy Blandin and Maxime Godin-Maresches, 9-7. Radu Barbu and Jacob Martin were leading 5-2 in their match versus Raul Rivas and Oscar Roman, but the Islander tandem went on to take it in a tiebreaker.

After No. 83 Blandin gave his squad a 2-0 advantage by defeating Jordan Freitas, 6-3, 6-3, at two singles, 34th-ranked Sestini put the Frogs on the board with a 6-2, 6-2 blasting of Andrey Kumantsov at the No. 1 slot. Jacopo Tezza knotted the match up at two apiece with a 6-4, 6-1 triumph over Godin-Maresches at three.

Perhaps the top performance of the day for TCU came from newcomer Barbu, who just arrived on campus from his native Romania Wednesday. He fell behind 3-0 in the first set at four singles against Rivas and was able to force a tiebreaker. Barbu and Rivas battled back and forth before Rivas committed a pair of unforced errors to fall 10-8 in the breaker. The Romanian dominated in the second frame, winning 6-2 to put his squad on top, 3-2.

Abreu provided the clinching win for the Horned Frogs at the No. 6 slot by upending Javier Bacaicoa in straight sets, 6-4, 6-3. Martin was unable to claim another point for TCU at five despite leading 4-2 in the third set against Goncalo Figueiredo. He suffered a 3-6, 6-2, 7-6(4) loss in the final match of the day.

Next up on TCU's docket is a Feb. 2 meeting with No. 75 Texas-Arlington in Arlington, Texas, at 1:30 p.m. CST.
