FORT WORTH – TCU’s men’s tennis team picked up its third-straight match sweep Wednesday evening with a 4-0 win over Texas A&M Corpus Christi inside the indoor facility of the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The 67th-ranked Horned Frogs improved to 4-1 on the year, while Texas A&M Corpus Christi slipped to 0-3. Due to the impending late finish, the match was halted after the Frogs scored the clinching fourth point.

“We got on top and singles and never looked back,” TCU coach David Roditi said. “I really liked our blue-collar, gritty style in singles. Anytime you can play like that in singles, you’re going to be thrilled as a coach.”

The Frogs scored the doubles point in thrilling fashion, as TCU came from behind on each court, including Nos. 1 and 2, where the matches went to tiebreakers. Arnau Dachs and Orlando Superlano struck first for TCU, notching an 8-5 win over Guillaume Rauseo and Gergo Weidinger at No. 3 doubles.

Nick Chappell and Will Stein followed with the doubles-point clincher at No. 2 doubles, grabbing a thrilling 8-7 (6) win over Andrew Maingot and Matt Westmoreland. Max Stevens and JT Sundling added an 8-7 (1) win at the expense of Odon Barta and Peter Nagy.

After taking the 1-0 lead, TCU quickly brought things to an end with three singles wins. Dachs was the first to finish for TCU once again, notching a 6-0, 6-1 win over Westmoreland at No. 2 singles.

Sundling followed with a 6-2, 6-2 triumph over Rocardo Mayagoitia, while Superlano finished off the 4-0 win with a 6-2, 6-2 win of his own against Rauseo at No. 4 singles. The remaining three matches, which TCU led, were all called to a halt.

TCU turns its sights toward No. 16 Texas A&M, who visits the Friedman Tennis Center on Saturday. First serve is set for 1 p.m.

“We need a big, loud crowd for Saturday’s match,” Roditi said. “If a TCU student ever wanted to come to a tennis match, this is the one. It’s going to be a great atmosphere and two good teams going at it. We’re excited for Saturday.”
