No. 7 Stanford Shuts Down Horned Frogs, 5-2

FORT WORTH, Texas - On a beautiful sunny day in Palo Alto, Calif. the No. 35 TCU Horned Frogs fell to 4-2 overall after a visit to the No. 7 Cardinals of Stanford. The Frogs lost the doubles point and won only two of the six singles matches.
The doubles team of Alex Menichini and Fabrizio Sestini (TCU) played at the No. 1 spot and were defeated by Stanford's David Martin and Scott Lipsky 8-4. At No. 2, James Pade and KC Corkery (Stanford) defeated Toni Gordon and Daniel Scholten (TCU) 8-5. To finish up, Stanford's Sam Warburg and Carter Moris shook off TCU's team of Rafael Abreu and Jacob Martin 8-4.
The singles front was more successful for TCU, with two singles coming away with victories. At No. 1, Martin (Stanford) def. Sestini (TCU) 6-4; 6-1, followed by Lipsky (Stanford) def. Menichini (TCU) at No. 2, 6-2; 6-4. At the No. 3 spot, James Pade (Stanford) def. Gordon (TCU) 6-3; 7-6. At No. 4 Warburg (Stanford) def. Scholten (TCU) 6-3; 6-3 and at No. 5, Abreu (TCU) def. Stanford's Moris 3-6; 6-2; 7-5. Rounding it out for the Frogs, freshman Jacopo Tezza def. Phil Sheng (Stanford) 6-2; 4-6; 6-1.
Abreu improves his singles record to 9-1 overall, the best of any current Frog player.
The Frogs will remain in the Sunshine State to take on Californa in Berkeley on Monday, Feb. 10. The Frogs will return home to take on South Alabama on Feb. 17 at 1:30 p.m.
