TULSA, Okla. – TCU’s men’s tennis team dropped a 4-1 decision to No. 17 Tulsa on Sunday afternoon at the Golden Hurricane’s Michael D. Case Tennis Center.

The No. 68-ranked Horned Frogs slipped to 5-3 on the year, while Tulsa improved to 4-4. At No. 17, the Golden Hurricane marked the third-straight top-20 opponent on TCU’s schedule.

“To beat a team like Tulsa on the road, we need to be ready to compete,” TCU coach David Roditi said. “That was a really good win for Nick Chappell, though over a guy who I think is one of the better players in the country.”

Tulsa picked up the doubles point to open the match in thrilling fashion. The squads split 8-5 decisions at Nos. 1 and 3 doubles, including Orlando Superlano and Arnau Dachs’ win over Japie De Klerk and Carlos Bautista, but TU won the deciding match at No. 2 doubles.

Grant Ive and Tristan Jackson got past Max Stevens and JT Sundling, grabbing an 8-7 (5) win to put TU ahead 1-0.

Tulsa added wins at Nos. 2, 3 and 6 singles to clinch the match that say five of the six singles matches go to three sets. At No. 1 singles, Chappell dropped TU’s Clifford Marsland, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4, for TCU’s lone point.

TCU plays the back end of its Sunday doubleheader against Oral Roberts. First serve was slated for 4:30 p.m., at TU’s Case Tennis Center.
