TCU Takes Out UT Arlington

FORT WORTH, Texas (February 16, 2014) – The No. 35 TCU men’s tennis team picked up an 11-4 victory over UT Arlington on Sunday afternoon in Arlington, Texas at the UTA Tennis Center.
The Horned Frogs (2-2, 0-0 Big 12) could not overcome strong doubles action from the Mavericks (2-4, 0-1 Sunbelt) as UTA won three of the five matches, but TCU rebounded to win nine of the 10 singles matches.
“The guys did a great job bouncing back from a disappointing doubles performance. UTA always plays well in doubles and we get to improve our doubles play before conference starts,” coach David Roditi said. “It was a great format to watch all of our team play. It was also nice to see the three freshmen and coach Doebler get their first dual match victory of their TCU career. Now we get to play at home in front of our fans.”
To open the match, the Mavericks picked up a wins at No. 1 doubles and No. 3 doubles to take the official doubles point in the match. Arnau Dachs and Trey Daniel won a thrilling tiebreaker on court two with an 8-7(4) downing of Marek Pesicka and Sebastian Erimicioiu. Blake Wiggins and Hudson Blake recorded the other doubles win for the Frogs as the duo defeated Pablo Colvee and Daniel Echeverry 8-6.
TCU did not stay down for long, as the team swept all six singles matches to officially win the match 6-1. No. 77 Nick Chappell easily took care of Pesicka with a 6-1, 6-1 victory, while No. 60 Facundo Lugones played on court two for the first time this season and defeated Daniel Armengol 6-1, 6-3.
Arnau Dachs continued the team’s winning ways and took down Carlos Arbize 6-1, 6-1, while senior Rodolfo Bustamante found victory over Erimicioiu with a 6-1, 6-4 win at the No. 4 position. Daniel and Jhonathan Gonzalez finished out the TCU’s scoring members with straight set wins on courts five and six.
TCU will open its 2014 home season this coming weekend, as the Frogs host USC Upstate, San Francisco and Lamar for the TCU Spring Invitational on Friday and Saturday at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center. The team will face USC Upstate at 10 a.m. and 5:30 p.m. on Feb. 21 and will faceoff against San Francisco and Lamar at 11 a.m. and 3 p.m. on Feb. 22.
