FORT WORTH – TCU’s men’s tennis team got back in the win column Friday night with a 4-0 blanking of SMU on a cold night at the Bayard H. Friedman Tennis Center.

The 51st-ranked Horned Frogs improved to 8-4 on the year with the win, while SMU slipped to 2-5. TCU has now won four of the last five meetings with its crosstown rival and brought the all-time series ledger to 28-27 slightly in favor of SMU.

“This team is hungry and they want to accomplish something special,” TCU coach David Roditi said. “Today that showed. I’m proud of the guys and proud of our fans that stuck it out in th cold.”

TCU opened the match with wins at Nos. 2 and 3 doubles to take a 1-0 lead. Max Stevens and JT Sundling struck first for the Frogs, notching an 8-6 win over Nate Lammons and Pablo Perez-Esnaola at No. 2 doubles.

Arnau Dachs and Orlando Superlano followed with the clinching win at No. 3 doubles, an 8-4 downing of Gaston Cuadranti and Alex Sanders. The match at No. 1 doubles, which was tied at 6, was stopped.

The 108th-ranked Dachs wasted no time running TCU’s advantage to 2-0 when he quickly took care of Sanders, 6-2, 6-2 at No. 2 singles. The Vic, Spain, native ran his spring season mark to 8-3 and is 19-5 overall in his first year of competition for TCU.

Lugones scored TCU’s third point with a thrilling 6-3, 7-5 triumph at the expense of Perez-Esnaola on the third singles court. The Buenos Aires native fell behind 0-5 in the second set before winning the final seven games for a straight-set win.

Superlano tacked on the fourth and final point at court No. 4, scoring a 6-1, 7-6 (1) win over Mischa Nowicki. Superlano, one of TCU’s two seniors, improved his spring season record to 9-2, which is TCU’s top mark.

The remaining three singles matches, which TCU led, were all stopped when the fourth point was scored.

TCU returns to action March 9 when it hosts No. 37-ranked North Carolina. First serve is set for 1 p.m. from the Friedman Tennis Center.
