Horned Frog Men's Tennis Falls 6-1 to No. 2 Virginia

FORT WORTH, Texas -- The No. 23 TCU men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 setback at the hands of the No. 2-ranked Virginia Cavaliers Friday in Fort Worth, Texas. The Horned Frogs dropped to 5-2 with the loss, while the Cavs improved to 11-1 on the year.
Darrin Cohen and Doug Stewart picked up an 8-3 win in doubles at the third position over TCU's duo of Radu Barbu and Jacopo Tezza. UVa's 23rd-rated tandem of Somdev Devvarman and Treat Huey recorded an 8-6 victory against Jordan Freitas and Jacob Martin at two doubles to secure the doubles point. The Frogs' Rafael Abreu and Fabrizio Sestini, ranked 13th, fell short against Nick Meythaler and Rylan Rizza at one by a 9-8 score.
Things did not get much better for the Frogs in singles. Devvarman, rated No. 13, made short work of Freitas at the third slot, 6-0, 6-1. Huey was the next Cavalier to triumph, downing Barbu at the No. 4 hole, 6-3, 6-1. Cohen, ranked 36th, posted the clinching point at six singles by defeating Martin in straight sets, 6-3, 6-4.
The 22nd-ranked Sestini managed the only point for TCU at the top spot. He defeated the highest ranked player of his career in No. 7 Stewart in straight set fashion, 6-2, 6-3. The victory snapped Sestini's three-match losing streak.
TCU will next be in action March 11 in Berkeley, Calif., when it faces the California Golden Bears at 3:30 p.m. CST.
