TCU Suffers 6-1 Setback to California

BERKELEY, Calif. -- The No. 22 TCU men's tennis team suffered a 6-1 setback to the No. 31 California Golden Bears Friday in Berkeley, Calif. The Horned Frogs fell to 5-3 with the loss, while the Bears improved to 5-5 on the year.

TCU's lone point came in doubles. Winning first for the Frogs were Jordan Freitas and Jacob Martin by an 8-5 count at the No. 3 slot against Ken Nakahara and John Pettit. The 13th-ranked duo of Rafael Abreu and Fabrizio Sestini gave TCU a 1-0 lead after scoring a victory over No. 27 Patrick Briaud and Conor Niland.

The Horned Frogs were swept in singles play. Briaud clinched the match for the Bears by downing Freitas, 6-4, 6-4, at the No. 3 position. Sestini was able to extend his match to a third set with No. 27 Niland at one singles, but he was dropped 6-0. Martin lost his bout with Nakahara at the No. 5 spot in a third-set supertiebreaker, 10-7.

TCU will next be in action Saturday, March 12, in Berkeley when it faces the No. 19 Pepperdine Waves at 3 p.m. CST.
